                  The Coconino National Forest is one of the most diverse National Forests in the country with landscapes ranging from the famous red rocks of Sedona to ponderosa pine forests, from southwestern desert to alpine tundra. Protected since 1898 and designated a National Forest in 1908, the Coconino National Forest is a natural playground. The forest surrounds the cities of Sedona and Flagstaff and borders four other national forests: the Kaibab National Forest to the west and northwest, the Prescott National Forest to the southwest, the Tonto National Forest to the south, and the Apache-Sit-Greaves National Forest to the southeast.
